Frequently asked questions

Where did your name come from?

It was chosen by Andy and is a reference to the “pale-blue envelope from Prague” from The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, which is one of Andy’s all-time favorite books. Nick said he didn’t care what we called ourselves as he’s been in too many bands to care about names anymore.

How do you guys know each other?

We started working together when we met through mutual friends while making videos for Dad’s House Comedy. We were asked to make a video for money, so we created an LLC to produce it, and the rest is the stuff of legends.

Where are you guys based?

Beautiful, brilliant North Portland! You can often find us taking up way too much space at Arbor Lodge Coffee Shop.

How much does a video cost?

Unfortunately, we don’t have a straight answer for that. It depends on the scope of the project, its purpose, and your budget. We just like to make stuff, though, so feel free to reach out no matter what you can spend.

Do you guys each kinda do everything or do you split duties or like how does that work?

Well, Nick does most of the organization and emailing and budget work. Andy does most of the writing and pre-visualization. We both come up with ideas. On set, Andy is often behind the camera and focusing on the actors while Nick is running around putting out fires. Nick does all of the graphics and design work. Andy does the color correction. Nick does the After-Effects work but Andy is often doing the bulk of the editing. But all of those can be flexible! Except Andy is terrified by After Effects so that’s pretty much always Nick.

What is that movie that Andy keeps referencing?

That movie is Hanna, starring the inimitable Saoirse Ronan. It’s great. They just made a TV series out of it but it’s not the same.

What is your deepest fear?

Andy: You not liking him. Nick: Going over budget.

Can you do anything with puppets?

Hell. Yes. Please. If you want a puppet video, just ask.
